Most NYCWW events are free and open to the public. Space is limited for certain events, so advance registration is encouraged.

Does your community garden include native plants?

Let the public know by displaying a NYC Wildflower Week sign at your garden and highlighting your native plants with our plant markers. You can download the materials here.

BUTTERFLY PROJECT WORKSHOP & NATIVE PLANT GIVEAWAY
Time: Saturday, May 14, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Location: River Garden, 1086 East 180th Street between Boston Rd and Devoe Ave
Facilitators: Bronx Green-Up/The New York Botanical Garden, GreenThumb, and the Butterfly Project

Description: Learn why pollinators are so important and how you can attract them to your garden by using native plants. (Please note: The available plants are for planting in community gardens and other public spaces.) This year’s workshop will include an interactive planting activity as we assist River Garden in installing a pollinator area. We will discuss design, soil type and choosing the right plants for your specific location. Funding for native plants is also provided by GreenThumb.

JOHN MUIR TRAIL VOLUNTEER DAYS
Time: Saturday, May 7, and Saturday, May 14; 10:00am – 2:00pm
Location: Meet at Woodlawn Playground, just south of Kepler Avenue on Van Cortlandt Park East.

MILLION TREES COMMUNITY TREE GIVEAWAY
Time: Sunday, May 15, 11:00am – 1:00pm

Description: Friends are pleased to offer community members FREE trees to plant on private property. This event is open to anyone living within the 5 boroughs. Trees cannot be planted in city parks, on terraces or rooftops, or in tree pits on the street. Information about the species of trees available, planting instructions and care will be available. Each person or community group is allowed one tree while supplies last.
